BRIEF ABOUT THE YUSUF BALA USMAN COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND LEGAL STUDIES, DAURA
The College was established in 1979 under the then Kaduna State Sharia Court of Appeal. It was then addressed as the College of Legal Studies (CLS).
It operated on many temporary sites before its merger with the Katsina Polytechnic in 1984, as one of the schools in the institution (renamed SLEMS).
On 28th July 2004, the College was carved out of the Polytechnic and relocated to Daura. On September 28, 2005, the College was named Yusufu Bala Usman College of Legal and General Studies by the State Executive Council as an honour to the late academic icon. The institution was moved to its permanent site here in Daura on October 16th, 2006. This was made possible as a result of committing of hundreds of millions of Naira by His Excellency the then Executive Governor of the State, and the former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’adua, the Mutawalle of Katsina. Similar commitment was made by the Mutawalle regime in form of take-off grant of N100million. Additionally, a capital grant of N87m was approved in 2007 and in 2008 about N250m was approved by the administration of His Excellency Alhaji Ibrahim Shehu Shema for capital projects.
The College was also upgraded and renamed Dr. Yusufu Bala Usman College by the 4th civilian administration Governor of the State Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, CFR, Dallatun Katsina, Matawallen Hausa in the year 2018 after amendment of the law establishing the College by the State House of Assembly.
The College was finally re-named the Yusuf Bala Usman College of Education and Legal Studies, Daura in 2024 by the State Executive Council under H.E, the then Executive Governor of Katsina State, Alh. Aminu Bello Masari, CFR (Dallatun Katsina), Matawallen Hausa.
